Can’t Resist Sharing This :)

Well the annual Christmas Card photo shoot didn’t go too well and I’m trying my best to scrape something together from the 200 useless photos that I took but I couldn’t resist sharing this one with you :)

Pabobo Lumilove Penguin Review

We’ve been having lots of sleep issues with MasterB and I had become convinced that part of his issue was that he doesn’t like the dark. Maybe this is related to his poor vision problems or maybe it’s just one of his quirks but when Pabobo sent us a Lumilove Penguin to review, it was an extremely welcome product!

“Lumilove Penguin is a fun little animal buddy that kids can take everywhere, all the time! During the day, it can be hugged, told stories, played with and when night falls, the cute Penguin gently shines and plays music for 15 minutes.

Since it doesn’t heat up, it can slide under the covers safely: perfect – especially right after a little scare or a sad time!

To recharge it, all you have to do is place the Penguin on its base… smart! With 11 hours of operation, it’s ready for lots of well-lit hugs.

Lumilove Penguin even turns on automatically soon as you remove it from its base, or if the power goes out!”

Since the moment they saw it both MasterB and MissB have been obsessed with the lumilove penguin. They think the penguin is magic as he lights up when you take him off his base and they love his “singing”. At night I have been putting it in MasterB’s bed (much to the disgust of MissB who wants it for her own bed) and he seems to find it really settling. He will lie playing with it until he falls asleep. He has mastered how to turn it on and off by pressing the button on the bottom which he finds fascinating :)

From a parent’s point of view, I love that it is so simple to use – you simply pop him back on his base in a morning and then by bedtime he is ready to light up again. It really doesn’t generate any heat and I feel completely happy leaving it in MasterB’s cot overnight. The lullaby that it plays is quiet and soothing and really does help MasterB wind down to sleep. I really think it’s a fab product and suspect I will end up buying one for MissB for Christmas just so that we don’t have anymore arguements over who penguin is sleeping with at night ;) I particularly like the look of Lumilove BabraPapa as I remember them fondly from my childhood days :)

You can buy Lumilove nightlights in various places, I’ve included links to them on Amazon below :) The price is a little more than I’d usually expect to pay for a nightlight but seeing how much my children enjoy playing with theirs makes me think it’s worth it. It would definitely make a great christmas present for your little ones :)

WOW Toys – Whiz-Around Amy and Ernie The Fire Engine Review

We love WOW Toys in this household, last year we reviewed Casey the Campervan which is still a firm favourite with MissB and MasterB. I loved it so much, I’ve since bought them for friends children as presents! This year we’ve been sent Whiz-Around Amy and Ernie the Fire Engine to review which has made MissB and MasterB very happy!

20121113-130623.jpg

MissB automatically claimed Whiz-Around Amy as hers, now I admit I’m not one for buying gender sterotype toys and I’d have been quite happy for either child to play with Amy. I actually tend to buy non-pink prodcuts whenever I can but MissB loved it so who am I to fight a losing battle ;)

I think one of the things MissB loves about Amy is all the little pieces, she is very much into role play at the moment (she is almost 3) and so loves putting all the different characters in the motorbike and sidecar and driving them around. The great thing is that all the other WOW toys characters fit into it too and so she has a little family of people to play with now. According to MissB, the fireman much prefers driving the motorbike when he isn’t at work in Ernie the Fire Engine :)

Contents:
Motorbike and sidecar called Amy
4 removable figures: a kitten in a basket called Tilly, Ted the Teddy bear, Annabelle the girl and a bouquet of flowers

I love that WOW toys appeal to children over a wide age range, last year we had Casey the Campervan to review and it has been played with constantly since then, both by MissB and her little brother MasterB (20 months old now). The toys are designed to be appealing and they certainly are. MasterB loves the friction motion and the sounds they make as he pushes them around the floor, mummy particular likes that there are NO BATTERIES required!!

From 1½ years – Sensory stimulation and motor skill development
From 2 years – Discovery & learning
From 2½ years – Social interaction
From 3 years – Role-play & exploration
20121113-130658.jpgMasterB has been playing with Ernie the Fire Engine mostly, quite possibly because MissB already claimed Whiz Around Amy. He loves the ladder than turns around and he is obsessed with driving it around the floor shouting nee nah nee nah at the top of this voice :)

1x Friction-powered fire truck called Ernie
1x Fire-fighter figure called Jack and 1x Safety barrier

We now have three WOW toys and they are currently top of the toy box! Both children love playing with them and even better, they will sit and play happily TOGETHER with them which is always lovely to see. As a parent, I love how bright and colourful they are and how well made WOW toys are. Trust me, if a toy is destructible, my two will find a way to destroy it and seeing as neither child has managed to destroy Casey the Campervan after a years use, I’d say Whiz-Around Amy and Ernie the Fire Engine are in safe hands ;)

20121113-130731.jpg

You can buy WOW toys in various stores or online. You can check here for a full list of their stockists, I have included links to them on Amazon below :) Seriously at around £9 for Amy and £12.50 for Ernie, they are a fantastic price and will definitely make great christmas presents for your toddlers this year!

Does anything look wrong with this photo?

I wouldn’t usually dedicate a blog post to this but it’s my first attempt at photoshopping a photo and I’ve basically put MasterB’s head from another photo onto this one. If I hadn’t told you would you have thought it looked odd at all?

Leapfrog – Peek A Shoe Octopus

The lovely people at Leapfrog have sent MissB and MasterB one of their Peek A Shoe Octopus to review.

The Peek A Shoe Octopus is for ages 9-36 months and so MasterB is almost old enough to play with it now. I have to remember that as he was premature he isn’t quite as advanced as most 8 month olds at the moment but now he has learnt to sit up he will find it easier to play :) MissB at 22 months absolutely loves playing with it.

The Peek A Shoe is basically a ball drop toy, you drop the balls into either the Octopus’s hat or arm (well I suppose technically it’s a tentacle?) and then you have to find which shoe it will appear under. The Octopus gives you clues using colours and numbers to help you find the ball. This is a fab game for teaching colour recognition, numbers and even sea animals. MissB can already identify most of the animals on the shoes but her favourite word is currently Octopus!

I only have a couple of small issues with the Peek A Shoe Octopus. 1) The balls are just small enough to roll under my sofa and so I’m quite frequently lying on my stomach with a ruler trying to get them back and 2) MissB has a habit of dropping other items into the Octopus. So far we have managed to retrieve them all successfully but we have to keep an eye out as we’ve so far found a shoe, a gingerbread man and a load of wooden jigsaw pieces in there. Even taking this into account though I think the Octopus is a great toy and we have been having loads of fun with it. When MasterB is a little older it will be lovely for them both to play with it together :)

The Peek A Shoe Octopus sells for £24.99 which I think is a pretty reasonable price and if you’re looking for gift ideas for a baby/toddler then it is definitely worth considering.

Orchard Toys – Red Dog, Blue Dog

Orchard Toys have very kindly sent MissB one of their Red Dog, Blue Dog games to review.

Red Dog, Blue Dog is a fun first lotto game for very young players with the aim being to match all the coloured pictures to the playing board. It is for ages 2-5 and there are 4 playing boards so it can be played by up to 4 players. In our household we love toys and games which encourage learning and family interaction and so we were very happy to be sent this to review :)

Now I have to admit we don’t exactly play the game as lotto at the moment as with MissB being only 22 months old, she doesn’t quite understand the idea of lotto. But we have had lots of fun making up our own games such as snap, matching the animals to the boards, finding the same image in different colours, learning colours. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination! We love being able to play together as a family although it will be a little bit longer until MasterB can join in as well ;) I’d love to post some photos of us all playing with Red Dog, Blue Dog but whenever we are playing I’m usually too busy having fun to remember to take photos at the same time :)

Red Dog, Blue Dog sells for £9.25 which is a fantastic price for a great stocking filler this Christmas :)

Leapfrog – My Own Leaptop

The lovely people at Leapfrog have sent MissB one of their My Own Leaptop’s to review and all I can say is what a HUGE hit it is in our house :)

“Personalise pretend computer play with My Own Leaptop™! Choose and download songs for a custom playlist, explore 6 learning activity stations and personalise 8 email messages for your child to enjoy! Parents can connect to the online LeapFrog® Learning Path for customised learning insights and ideas to expand the learning. Available in 2 colors: green and purple.”

When you first get the Leaptop you connect it to your computer with the included USB cable and then you can personalise it by connecting to the Leapfrog website. You get to personalise 3 emails and choose from certain songs and then it is ready to play with.

MissB spends hours playing with hers and she loves that she gets emails from Mummy, Daddy and MasterB. I love the blog button personally, it’s nice to get them interested in the world of blogging at an early age after all :)

I’ve done a little video below to show you just a few of the features of the Leaptop.

YouTube

My Own Leaptop sells for the bargain price of just £19.99 which I think is fantastic value for a toy that provides this much entertainment and learning. 10/10 to Leapfrog for this toy from the Brown household :)

Ribbons and Tulle – Childrens T-shirt Giveaway

Ribbons and Tulle is an online store which specialises in personalised products for events such as weddings, christenings or parties. They also do a fabulous range of sparkly t-shirts. The product I’m featuring in my christmas gift guide is this lovely sparkly childrens t-shirt.

What little girl wouldn’t love a lovely sparkly t-shirt as a present? The best thing is that each t-shirt is hand embellished and so any character of your choice or personalisation can be done for the design meaning you little girl can have something unique! T-shirts come in a full range of sizes from 1-2 upwards and a choice of colours. They sell for £10 on the Ribbon and Tulle website which I think is good value for a personalised t-shirt.

Lisa from Ribbons and Tulle has very kindly agreed to offer a super competition prize for one of you lovely readers. The winner will get to choose a childrens tshirt with the design of their choice on it.
